I prefer to visit the house and take the reference myself but can also work from photos supplied by the client, if necessary. My process then is to pencil the work, scan and send a jpeg to the client for approval (that's when it's easier for small changes to be made), before taking the picture to either crayon and colour (a softer look) or ink and colour (more graphic).
